Blog: What Tami Said

Tami Winfrey Harris’s blog is on Blogspot.

DC Social Media Examiner (DCSME): What is your blog about?

Tami Winfrey Harris (TWH): One black woman’s opinions of feminism, race, politics, pop culture and more

DCSME: How did you pick the topic for What Tami Said?

TWH: What Tami Said began as an outlet for my writing. Feminism, race, politics and pop culture became recurring themes because they are important to me and because when they are tackled by mainstream media it is rarely with a black, female voice. There is, of course, other stuff sprinkled throughout my blog. I often talk about my natural hair journey. And I’m a big music buff. I try to share some favorite tunes each Thursday.

DCSME: How is What Tami Said different from other blogs that cover the same or similar information?

TWH: Since I first began exploring the blogosphere, I have discovered many wonderful voices writing about the topics I also cover. My blog is unique in that I am unique–as we all are. I suppose a blog is sort of like a finger print–no two are alike.

DCSME: What do you like most about blogging?

TWH: Despite my love of music, I cannot sing or play an instrument. I can’t paint or sculpt. I’m not an actress. My way of being creative and expressing myself is writing. That is what I love about blogging. It is a chance to play with words–one of my favorite pastimes.

I’ve also met some truly amazing people by networking in the blogosphere. The friends I have made–and they are really friends–are invaluable.

DCSME: How often do you update What Tami Said?

TWH: Generally, my blog is updated once a day, Monday through Thursday.

Like every frequent blogger, I burn out sometimes. I’ve taken little breaks and holidays. Early in 2010, my blog was quiet while I took advantage of some other writing opportunities. But I always come back. I kind of need the outlet and the camaraderie.

DCSME: What else would you like to share with readers of your profile?

TWH: My goal in 2011 is to make What Tami Said a more active community with more interaction between commenters. If you drop by, please let your voice be heard!
