DC Social Media Examiner (DCSME): What is your blog about?

Perry MacNeil (PM): Kitchen Table Politics looks at the “kitchen table” issues we all deal with, and what the politicians are doing to help the middle/working class and the 99%. I sort through how the actions of politicians affect us all while we try to make ends meet, keep our job and home, and try to find a way to send our kids to college.

DCSME: How did you pick the topic for Kitchen Table Politics with Momma Politico: Politics for The Rest of Us?

PM: My blog has evolved over the years, from mommy blog to political opinion, and now to analysis of what the politicos are doing that affects families that’s kind of an extension of my segments on A World of Progress Radio. The longer I blogged, the more I saw that no one was taking national politics and talking about how it affects my family and our kitchen table issues. So I thought it was about time for someone to make sense of it all for the rest of us.

DCSME: How is Kitchen Table Politics with Momma Politico: Politics for The Rest of Us different from other blogs that cover the same or similar information?

PM: I’m a teacher and a mom of two kids. We’re struggling with a home that’s upside-down, my husband’s industry is downsizing, and we have two kids soon to be ready for college. I know about the struggles of working class folks like us. We’ve had those conversations about how to pay for everything and still have grocery money, and hoping that the kids don’t outgrow their school clothes until the end of the month. I have family in Afghanistan, and my sister was just laid off, and friends have had to walk away from their homes. These issues are real to me, and I want to hold accountable the folks who are squeezing the middle class.

DCSME: What do you like most about blogging?

PM: I love the interaction with my readers, sharing experiences, frustrations and joys. I like knowing that my ideas extend farther than my own kitchen table, and maybe will have an influence on the kitchen table of other families. I truly enjoy rallying folks around a cause and knowing that someone’s clearer on what’s being done to us, or in our name by corporations, the rich, or the politicos in their pockets. And maybe, just maybe, it’ll motivate others to fight the good fight as well. Together there is nothing we can’t accomplish.

DCSME: How often do you update Kitchen Table Politics with Momma Politico: Politics for The Rest of Us?

PM: I aim for a weekly post, although with work and family, it’s about one post for every 1 1/2 weeks.

DCSME: What else would you like to share with readers of your profile?

PM: I welcome your voice – the comments section is where the fun begins! Hearing the responses and experiences of my readers is one of the main reasons I blog.
