Blog: Sealed With a Kiss

Sunny Dee’s blog is on WordPress.com.

DC Social Media Examiner (DCSME): What is your blog about?

Sunny Dee (SD): How often have you had just the right thing to say at just the right moment only for the moment to pass with that thing left unsaid?

This blog is about an opportunity to recreate those moments. This is what I would say if the moment magically appeared again and it would all come out perfectly!

The topics are lifestyle topics and range from the hottest music on the underground scene and what’s going on in the dating world to abortion and domestic violence and the impact they have on the lives they touch.

DCSME: How did you pick the topic for Sealed With a Kiss?

SD: I chose to write my blog as the unheard truth in the form of a letter because there have been so many times over the course of my life when I’ve replayed conversations for hours inserting all the right things to say should the exact same conversation occur again.

Eventually I began writing those things down and finding that the exact same conversation may never occur again but the truth would always remain and it was something to be shared.

DCSME: How is Sealed With a Kiss different from other blogs that cover the same or similar information?

SD: My blog is different because it is a letter to the subject, not just about the subject.

DCSME: What do you like most about blogging?

SD: Blogging is cathartic. It allows me to release my thoughts and energy around any topic in a direct conversation with the subject. I love interacting with other bloggers and reading the talent of others but then when I sit down to write I love being able to exude my own talent, style, creativity and full-expression of who I am as a blogger.

DCSME: How often do you update Sealed With a Kiss?

SD: I update my blog at least 4 times a week. Currently, I have about one guest blogger a week which adds a spin and a variety on the topics that keeps my blog fresh and alive in a different way.

DCSME: What else would you like to share with readers of your profile?

SD: I am a Sunny California girl dropped in this strange country of Brooklyn and I am loving every minute of it. The adventures are endless and each day is the playground of life.

NY Blogger: Queen Esther

Blogger: Queen Esther

Blog: Kudzu, Mon Amour

Queen Esther’s blog is on Blogspot.

DC Social Media Examiner (DCSME): What is your blog about?

Queen Esther (QE): My blog is basically about my life as an artist.

I’m a theater/musical theater actor and solo performer that’s slowly and carefully transitioning into film/tv/commercials. I’m a vocalist with a voice over business and a musician/songwriter with a publishing deal that self-releases material. I’m also a playwright/librettist that’s developing new work.

My blog is about what that creative process is, from preparing for an audition to reading and researching an idea for a script — and all the things that happen along the way.

DCSME: How did you pick the topic for Kudzu, Mon Amour?

QE: Everything happens so fast, especially in this city. This blog was my way of slowing things down and examining them – an especially important thing to do if you’re highly creative.

DCSME: How is Kudzu, Mon Amour different from other blogs that cover the same or similar information?

QE: I don’t know of any other blogs where an actor/actress/performer/writer of color would dissect the audition/callback/work/creative process and their place in it. Do you?

DCSME: What do you like most about blogging?

QE: The thing that I like most about blogging is that I get to document what’s happening in my world — which, for some strange reason, is a lot harder than it sounds.

DCSME: How often do you update Kudzu, Mon Amour?

QE: Sometimes, its a few times a month. Sometimes it’s every day. It totally depends on what I’m up to. I have to be pretty swamped to not write anything at all.

DCSME: What else would you like to share with readers of your profile?

QE: I’m much more than an out of work actor that’s auditioning incessantly and waiting for my big break – or at least a phone call. That tired cliche has come and gone — for me, at least — so if you’re looking for an abbreviated version of “FAME” this blog will be a huge let-down.

As a multidisciplinary artist, I’m not a replicator — I’m an originator. I audition, I get callbacks and sometimes I get the job. But most of the work I do, I write/create — especially when it comes to music.

Blogger: India Celeste

Blog: Show Biz, My biz

India Celeste’s blog is on Tumblr.

DC Social Media Examiner (DCSME): What is your blog about?

India Celeste (IC): Be Entertained. Be Inspired.

DCSME: How did you pick the topic for Show Biz, My biz?

IC: Entertainment and Inspiration are two things that I’ve always wanted to use to give myself back to the world. Life is very hard sometimes and we all need to be distracted, have fun, and encouraged at the same time to get through it.

DCSME: How is Show Biz, My biz different from other blogs that cover the same or similar information?

IC: It is not a gossip blog. I only comment on entertainment news that is related to someone as a professional and instead of just commenting, I also attempt to give insight into what readers may take from the story and apply to their own lives. I also provide inspirational quotes, music, and movies that entertain yet inspire.

DCSME: What do you like most about blogging?

IC: I like getting the feedback from people that they have beenn inspired to start a blog simply from visiting my page or the feedback that something I posted taught them something new or showed them something they never considered before. My blog is about what I think is important, not about what everyone else is reporting.

DCSME: How often do you update Show Biz, My biz?

IC: Every day to every other day depending on my life schedule. I try not to go more than 2 days without posting.

DCSME: What else would you like to share with readers of your profile?

IC: Show Biz, My Biz is going to be around for awhile and I hope that they keep it in mind during their rough days or just to start the day off on the right foot. Learn something new everyday.

NY Blogger: Penguin Hall Monitor

Blogger: Penguin Hall Monitor

Blog: Penguin Hall Monitor

Penguin Hall Monitor’s blog is on Blogspot.

DC Social Media Examiner (DCSME): What is your blog about?

Penguin Hall Monitor (PHM): The Penguin Hall Monitor reports on all the activities at Penguin Hall, its inhabitants and its visitors.

Come in, sit down, have a cup of coffee and stay awhile!

We cover mostly those events happening at the Hall, but sometimes the editors’ minds wander a bit and then all bets are off.

DCSME: How did you pick the topic for Penguin Hall Monitor?

PHM: The Penguin Hall Monitor was originally a printed edition, published four times a year, for the benefit of the family get-togethers. Interest became so great, the editors decided to put it out online so everyone could enjoy all the antics.

DCSME: How is Penguin Hall Monitor different from other blogs that cover the same or similar information?

PHM: Outside of indulging in a cocktail or two perhaps more frequently than most, being seen in formalwear nearly all the time, traveling around the country in our spare time and offering offbeat opinions on the state of Mr. Hall’s occupation (funeral director)- well, we’re practically like everyone else.

DCSME: What do you like most about blogging?

PHM: The immediate nature of the platform. We could be in Chicago one day, Denver the next and winging our way to Las Vegas after that. With blogging (and other attendant social media, i.e. Twitter) we can bring everyone along with us for the ride.

DCSME: How often do you update Penguin Hall Monitor?

PHM: Depends. When we’re on the road, it’s more frequent. Usually though, an update appears once a week. We try not to go any longer than that; too many things pile up and then the editors have to go and lie down for awhile and we take turns visiting and holding their hands.

DCSME: What else would you like to share with readers of your profile?

PHM: Mr. and Mrs. Hall would like to thank Faydra Deon for offering us an opportunity to talk about the Penguin Hall Monitor here, and we’d like to invite everyone to stop by and say Hi! if they are in the area. (We are particularly fond of English gin and French vermouth, if you are struggling with that hospitality gift bugaboo.)

NY Blogger: Shydel James

Blogger: Shydel James

Blog: The Urbane Urbanite

Shydel James’s blog is on Blogspot.

DC Social Media Examiner (DCSME): What is your blog about?

Shydel James (SJ): The Urbane Urbanite is an urban lifestyle blog where topics range from food & drink, travel & leisure and art & culture to personal reflections, rants and ramblings on current events, life and happenstance.

DCSME: How did you pick the topic for The Urbane Urbanite?

SJ: Easy. I chose to write about what I know and love. When I sat down to think about all the things that are of interest to me: food, alcohol, the arts, theatre, film, music, travel, writing, books, fashion, etc., I realized that all of those things make up a particular type of lifestyle. A refined lifestyle, yet, I don’t sip tea in my sitting room on the upper east side either. At the end of the day, I’m an urban guy with good taste. That’s how The Urbane Urbanite was born. My very first post was about an upscale tequila tasting I attended on the lower east side of New York City. That’s the sort of thing I’m all about.

DCSME: How is The Urbane Urbanite different from other blogs that cover the same or similar information?

SJ: I try to put a personal stamp on every post I write. Unless it’s a profile of another person, I like to draw inspiration from my own opinions and experiences.

I also don’t consider myself an expert on everything I write about. I’d rather interview people who are actual experts on certain subjects, which allows me to share appropriate advive, information and tips with my readers.

I don’t talk at or preach to my readers. For the most part, my writing style is quite subjective, but with a conversational, easy, breezy feel to it.

Whether I’m writing a review of a restuarant or giving my opinion on why I think it’s a bad idea for mothers to bad mouth their child’s father around their kids, I always welcome my readers to weigh in with their thoughts.

As I reach my one-year blog anniversary in March 2011, my number one goal is to encourage my readers to comment more so that we can establish a two-way dialogue, even if it’s just a post on how to make good sangria!

DCSME: What do you like most about blogging?

SJ: I enjoy having the opportunity to write/talk about the things that I’m passionate about – and know that folks are reading along in agreement or disagreement. I also enjoy the community feel that blogging brings when my readers actually share their thoughts on the things I’ve written about.

DCSME: How often do you update The Urbane Urbanite?

SJ: I update my blog about two to three times per week.

DCSME: What else would you like to share with readers of your profile?

SJ: I’m also an actor/writer, who contributes regularly to UPSCALE magazine and has written for VIBE, KING, Essence.com and several other online entities.

Blogger: Misha

Blog: The Fab Chick

Misha’s blog is on Blogspot.

DC Social Media Examiner (DCSME): What is your blog about?

Misha (MP): TheFabChick.com is a fashion, beauty and lifestyle hodgepodge for the average working female like myself looking to maintain a “fab” life all while looking “fab”.

DCSME: How did you pick the topic for The Fab Chick?

MP: I decided to blog about topics that appeal to me under the scope of fashion and beauty and overall living as a style obsessed individual.

DCSME: How is The Fab Chick different from other blogs that cover the same or similar information?

MP: I would say what makes me a little different is my voice and point of view on writing about certain topics.

DCSME: What do you like most about blogging?

MP: I love just being able to get thoughts in my head out and hearing feedback from those who read them.

DCSME: How often do you update The Fab Chick?

MP: My goal is always to post something once a day, but with my hectic work life, I at least post 3-4 times a week.

DCSME: What else would you like to share with readers of your profile?

MP: I guess I would want my readers to know that I always appreciate their feedback and that everything I decide to blog about is something I’m passionate about. I personally can not blog about every press release sent to me if it doesn’t move me in anyway. If its not something I would participate in, wear, or recommend to others, they should know I would not endorse it on my blog for the sake of readership and pr relationships.
