Blog: A World of Progress

Kim G.’s blog is self-hosted on WordPress.

DC Social Media Examiner (DCSME): What is your blog about?

Kim G. (KG): Our mission is to amplify the voices of people of good conscience who write and speak with honesty and clarity on the issues of our time. We focus on politics, society, culture both international and domestic. We wholeheartedly support the 99% and Occupy movements across the globe.

DCSME: How did you pick the topic for A World of Progress?

KG: I watched Fahrenheit 9/11 and I was a changed person. I had to scramble to educate myself on all that I had missed while I wasn’t paying attention and then talk about it. I found some friends who also have a lot to say about the state of our world today.

DCSME: How is A World of Progress different from other blogs that cover the same or similar information?

KG: I think we have a nice variety of topics that span the width and breadth of what it means to be Progressive, to live the idea of truth seeking and taking action to elevate our own consciousness and offer our assistance and insights to those who seek community instead of divisiveness.

DCSME: What do you like most about blogging?

KG: Being the Publisher and not having to do all the writing anymore. Blogging has become a way to join forces with people all across the globe, to network with them to effect change and that is very exciting for me.

DCSME: How often do you update A World of Progress?

KG: We usually have at least three new posts per day and we currently have a 2 hour and 30 minute live ustream show Sundays from 6:30 to 9:00 pm Eastern time.

DCSME: What else would you like to share with readers of your profile?

KG: Dream up a way to help someone and then share your ideas with others and ask them to help. Great things will happen if you keep doing that long enough.

RT: It’s been a backstage pass to the cruise industry. I was the first blogger covering new cruise ship inaugurals, writing daily reviews from cruise ships, live tweeting from ships, etc. I’m always experimenting with social media in the cruise industry and I write about it on it CruiseSource.us.

I give my opinions on cruise pricing trends.

This expertise has lead to me being in Wall Street Journal, Forbes.com, USA Today, ABCnews.com, and many other articles from major publications.

DCSME: What do you like most about blogging?

RT: I love having an outlet to share my thoughts and to teach others. It’s been life changing!

RT: 4 times per week – everyday while cruising.

I started blogging back in June 09’ to document my journey and follow my dream of becoming a mom entrepreneur and offer business resources to readers which quickly turned into a more personal blog followed by lots of social networking, social media marketing and building great relationships in the blogosphere. I’m really down to earth, drama free and a social butterfly by nature!

So with daily chaos, 4 children, FT Job, Small Business, Social Networking, Networking in my local community, and a partridge in a pear tree! Life is hectic! Honestly without chaos I’m not that productive. So, I guess I wouldn’t have it any other way! If I can manage to sleep in on Saturday mornings and sneak in some “ME” time on the weekend that’s bliss! Welcome to my world…

NC Blogger: Joey Pinkney

Blogger: Joey Pinkney

Blog: JoeyPinkney.com

Joey Pinkney’s blog is self-hosted on WordPress.

DC Social Media Examiner (DCSME): What is your blog about?

Joey Pinkney (JP): I use my blog as a platform to promote the author interviews I conduct and the book reviews I write. I have been blogging about the book industry since the end of August ’08. Since that time, this blog has taken a life of its own.

I have featured authors from various genres and levels of notoriety. I have won awards for my book reviews and also been pulled into the realm of author, for which I’ve also won an award.

DCSME: How did you pick the topic for JoeyPinkney.com?

JP: My love of books naturally lead me to my current focus. At first, I was all over the place. I would one week write about acne, which was a winner. Another week, I would write about weight loss. Too much, way too much…

I eventually came back around to what I’m obsessed with – books. At first, I had to beg authors to be a part of what has become known as the “JoeyPinkney.com 5 Minutes, 5 Questions With… Author Interview Series”. It has grown to be a nationally recognized promotional tool for authors, primarily black authors.

DCSME: How is JoeyPinkney.com different from other blogs that cover the same or similar information?

JP: One thing that makes my blog different is the execution. My author interviews have a certain layout and style that’s totally it’s own that’s developed over time.

Also, the fact that its a one-man-operation. I do extensive social media networking for the different author interviews that are posted on JoeyPinkney.com. Most of the work is done solely by myself.

DCSME: What do you like most about blogging?

JP: It’s a release. It is such a great feeling to get an author interview posted. I also like the fact that I have created an access point for authors and readers that allows them to come into contact with each other.

My main goal with JoeyPinkney.com is to promote authors and books that wouldn’t normally get the time of day. I do that as much as time will allow.

When I get an email or a comment or recognition of my author interviews on other websites, I feel like my free time is well spent.

DCSME: How often do you update JoeyPinkney.com?

JP: I update in spurts. Sometimes, I post everyday or even multiple times a day. Other times, a week will pass before I post a new entry.

This is because I do much more than post author interviews and book reviews. I manage the processing of advertising monies, the placement of ads on my website and even the creation of ads. I update my social media website profiles, the auto-posts and the read and write books.

Oh… I also have a day job and a family.

DCSME: What else would you like to share with readers of your profile?

JP: Award Winning Author – “Like Father, Like Son”, a short story featured in The Soul of a Man Anthology (2009 Best Short Stories/Best Anthology – African American Literary Awards Show)

Award Winning Book Reviewer – JoeyPinkney.com (2010 Book Reviewer of the Year – AAMBC)

Blog: An Evolving Testimony

M.H. Wesley’s blog is on Blogspot.

DC Social Media Examiner (DCSME): What is your blog about?

M.H. Wesley (MHW): My blog is Christian-based, and it is designed to give inspirational messages to readers. My main goal is to share with the world the things I’ve learned through my experiences in order to strengthen and uplift them. I am also an author so I give readers an indepth look at my writing process as I work towards completing my second book.

DCSME: How did you pick the topic for An Evolving Testimony?

MHW: After I released my first book, The Job Experience, I decided that there was so much more that I wanted to share with others. I was starting my second book but in the interim, I wanted an avenue where I could uplift and encourage others on a regular basis. I heard about the benefits of blogging so I decided to give it a try and I’m so glad I did.

DCSME: How is An Evolving Testimony different from other blogs that cover the same or similar information?

MHW: My blog is different because the messages that I convey are simply lessons that I learn during my meditation and prayer time as well as my unique experiences. Since I let readers get an inside scoop into my writing process it is something that only I can share properly.

DCSME: What do you like most about blogging?

MHW: I enjoy giving encouraging words to others and I am uplifted as well when I write down my own thoughts and can come back and read them later.

DCSME: How often do you update An Evolving Testimony?

MHW: I don’t have a set amount of time that I update my blog. My blog is fairly new, but I have updated at least once a week.

DCSME: What else would you like to share with readers of your profile?

MHW: The whole purpose of my blog is to share and uplift. All of my books follow in the same manner. God has been good to me and I want to let others know that no matter how difficult the road, with God on their side, failure is not an option.
