DC Social Media Examiner (DCSME): What is your blog about?
Curtez Riggs (CDR): Life After The Army, introduces the concepts of personal branding to Service Members preparing to transition from the Military. We’re helping them to take baby steps, while translating their experiences into a format that’s relevant to today’s job market.
DCSME: How did you pick the topic for Life After The Army?
CDR: Over the years, I’ve watched several of my peers leave the military totally unprepared for the civilian sector. Of course, they’ve been through ACAP, and all of the other mandatory transition programs; understand how to write a resume, and can sit at attention during a potential interview. They’re just as prepared as the rest of the unemployed veterans actively seeking employment… The problem is that because they were unable to stand out, their resumes got lost in the shuffle.
DCSME: How is Life After The Army different from other blogs that cover the same or similar information?
CDR: Most of the other Personal Branding Blogs offer assistance to the general public. We’re providing needed information to Service Members and Veterans in a language that they understand, without a pitch… We’re finding that our content is better received because we’re walking in the shoes of other Service Members.
DCSME: What do you like most about blogging?
CDR: Knowing that there’s someone out there taking notes and applying the lessons learned from my blog. I enjoy receiving emails; more so emails from readers who are interested in learning more. It helps validate our work at Life After The Army.
DCSME: How often do you update Life After The Army?
CDR: We will be updating the blog every Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning. We like to give our followers something relevant to read before they begin their day.
DCSME: What else would you like to share with readers of your profile?
CDR: I’ve been serving in the US Army since 1997. Currently I work out of Fort Meade, MD serving as a Master Trainer for the Baltimore Recruiting Battalion.
